One of the stray cats I feed has developed a crust all around his face. He scratches a lot and has broken the skin in some parts. His head including his ears is covered of a heavy dandruff like. What is this? Is it dangerous?

Is the cat tame? Can you get him to a vet? It can't be accurately diagnosed without a vet, and it sounds as if he is uncomfortable (scratching and breaking the skin). If you have a vet you regularly work with, he/she might offer a discount for a stray. It could be mange, which can be treated, usually with just 1 injection of ivermectin. You could also check with local shelters or animal services if the cat is tame. They might have a staff vet that will help the cat. I hope to hear from you. Good luck!

Bonito had mange and he was been treated for it but two days ago he got ran over by a car. My neighbor saw him and told me.
It is hard, I have been feeding him and taking care of him for 11 years even though he was not my cat, but his real owner never took care of him. He also had FIV but he was doing pretty good until before the mange. I have been sleeping in my family room for two days looking at my back porch thinking he is going to show up. It is very difficult. Thank you for being there when I needed it. |
