My cat had been neutered. A few days after he got home he started losing hair and the skin would turn red. We took him to the vet. They did a skin biopsy and they think that after surgery he laid on the heating pad for two long being the hair loss is only on one side. When the hair would fall off the top layer of skin came off too. The vet said this included the hair follicles. He has stopped losing hair but has a big bald spot and the skin is leathery like. My question is: Will the hair grow back in the area and if it does about how long will that take. Thank you.

I've never heard of anything like this. It sounds like he's been burned! You may want to pursue the issue with the vet who did the neutering, because your cat's condition should not have happened as a result of being neutered! If the vet clinic is guilty of negligence, other people should be aware of it.
Normally, cats' fur will grow back if it is lost due to stress, flea allergies, mange, etc., but your cat's case sounds unusual. Hopefully someone else will have some insight into this. Good luck. I hope he gets back to normal! |
