I need your help, guys....
Two weeks ago, I drove across the state to pick up a tiny male Shih tzu puppy that was my pick of the litter from a stud fee. I got home, after a 4 hour drive with my new tiny puppy who slept in my lap during most of the drive. I went to check in on my 1 week old Great Dane puppies, (3 weeks old today) came back inside & checked my phone messages. It was the guy I'd just gotten the pup from, telling me in a panicky voice to QUARANTINE my new Shih tzu pup IMMEDIATELY. Apparently, on his way to meeting me so I could pick up my pup, he had dropped off two sickly Sharpei puppies at his vet's office, & found out after I had already gotten my pup that both of his Sharpei's tested POSITIVE for parvo! I was scared to death, since I'd already had contact with my other dogs, including the brand new UNPROTECTED litter of 1 week old Dane pups.
This poor little Shih tzu has been quarantined in my 2nd bathroom, and still seems fine. I've been taking every possible precaution with cleanliness and disinfecting....my hands are raw from bleach. My question is....I've had him for 13 days now & he's still okay. I know that parvo can take from 3 to 11 days to show up. Tomorrow will be exactly 2 weeks since I brought him home. Am I out of the woods yet? Will he be okay, or should I keep him quarantined longer to protect my other dogs? My dogs are all current on their shots, except for the now 3 week old Dane pups. I'd be devastated if anything happens to them.
Also, is this guy I got the pup from responsible for any/all vet bills, AND possible pups I could lose from this? I feel he was TOTALLY irresponsible as a breeder in letting me take a puppy home when he KNEW he had sick pups that were all being kept on the same porch as my little Shih tzu's litter. My Shih tzu pup is still okay, but on EXACTLY the 11th day, he called to tell me that 2 pups from the same litter were diagnosed with parvo.
My pup is still okay....his are getting sick. Maybe I got mine out of there just in time. I hope so....any input on this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks so much.
